A traditional honey-seed snack made with food-grade canary seed

These simple honey seed bars combine toasted ALPISTE™ Food-Grade Canary Seed with pure honey to create a naturally sweet, crunchy treat. Perfect as a snack, lunchbox addition, or energy boost throughout the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ALPISTE™ Food-Grade Canary Seed
  • 1 cup liquid honey

Optional Variation

  • ½ cup ALPISTE™ Food-Grade Canary Seed
  • ½ cup sesame seeds
  • 1 cup liquid honey

Directions

Step 1: Toast the Seeds

  1. Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the ALPISTE™ seeds.
  3. Stir continuously while the seeds toast.
  4. Watch carefully until the seeds turn golden brown.
  5. The seeds will begin making small popping sounds as they toast.
  6. Remove from heat.

Step 2: Cook the Honey

  1. Add the toasted seeds and honey to a saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon.
  3. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches the hard-ball stage (265°F / 129°C) on a candy thermometer.

Step 3: Form the Bars

  1. Pour the hot mixture onto a well-oiled non-stick baking sheet or silicone baking mat.
  2. Spread evenly to approximately ⅛ inch thickness.
  3. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.

Caution: The honey mixture will be extremely hot. Handle carefully and allow the bars to cool before scoring, breaking apart, or tasting.

Step 4: Score and Cool

  1. While still warm, score into bars or squares using a sharp knife.
  2. Allow to cool completely.
  3. Break apart along the scored lines.

Step 5: Crisp the Bars

For crispier, less sticky bars:

  • Place the bars on a wire cooling rack.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours before storing.
